Let the drums pound, start a countdown And how art thou? I’m fine And, this rhyme? ….all about style Right now, switch it up, proceed to another route Go further out, far beyond the mortal realm you know about Showing out, no real reason, just instinct In sync with the universe, a cosmic entity My energy radiating bright like there’s ten of me Like KMC. Have a tendency to honor true MCs Whose rightful legacy’s often absent like truancy It’s lunacy, between you and me, it had me losing sleep Had to learn, hard to earn is more than just empty speak What’s a peak? I’m Keni Burke rising like a beak and wings I’ve seen some things, reveals my age similar to trees and rings Wondering, how can I get that songbird to sing? My answer? Take it by the day like a calendar The challenger must’ve not saw my last encounter The ten count didn’t matter, hurts to watch their ego shatter But I got a job to do, line em and watch em scatter Plus I got em pinpointed, and my style’s been poignant Still find time to laugh, bathe in some enjoyment This important, it’s a hinge moment, an intense omen Hence I go with the flow, word to Prince Po One rap’s greatest lyricists, plus other gifts As for me, Imma ask the genie for another wish In time they’ll discover this is loving like a mother’s kiss Pump your fist if you wanna if you wanna hear a bit more of this OK, I see you in my mind, so I’ll proceed with a different script Efficient with my words and the rhythms that I mix em with, Bliss and wit, origin unknown like fish n chips Your hissy fits? (la, la, la, la), not listening And, yeah, I know that feeling too, in fact, I find it interesting My discipline tells me keep working like we’re mission men Eventually we’ll hook some more like fishermen I wish to win, yet feeling tired like a Michelin Hence the bad joke…that’s the price of admission kids Hook: Must I remind you, I’m designed to flow…

This is brain food, patience and trust, my main tools Trust in myself, and I trust that I can’t lose Due to the fact don’t worry about who's who Focus on myself, easy task for a recluse …But no web of deception not trying to confuse Answers right there in your face like Blue Clues Let the violin play, to calm a violent state And try to find the space to create And, for those that relate, take time to thank you And, for the loved ones who it ignored it, praise due You showed me the light, so I switched to phase two Wade through…the rough waters, plus, a maze too Angst grew from setbacks, that’s why I let tracks Provide insight and take flight like jet packs The future is great... Subliminal Hook: Make the future a promise... And, if I got a second chance, what would I differently One thing for sure, mark some friends as enemies Seriously, it’s frustrating but curiously I wonder Are their acts malicious or a blunder? Sometimes it feels the same, the pain takes us under AMC ate his own words then switched to numbers A truth hunter, I’ve been tracking it for years But every time I catch it’s scent it just disappears It’s crystal clear, has no intentions of being found Fine, when it sneaks back in town, I’ll still be around TRUTH…I'm right here!
3.
False starts, I choose the fairway like golf carts with all sorts of rhymes in my head, it’s all art Official with a stamp of approval and hallmark I’m not trying to shoot for the stars then fall hard To be Frank, ain’t trying to go diamond like ballparks But still trying to grab a FEW ears, small starts Here’s a lil sumpin for those with a keen ear Like King Lear, lost love known to bring tears Or rage, but now I’m in a passionate state PRAISE, plan to stay that way till my casket’s encased GRAVE, engraved with my finest quote chose from my last days Preferably something personal with poetic phrase Set to phase, a stun gun, shaking up airwaves Minus the shock value, guess it comes with the grays Aging with grace, make amazing mistakes Still, I bake my own cakes, then start feeding my face Raising the stakes, raisins or dates? Agents or mates?, cages or grates? Phases or states? All so close, YET still far apart And you can’t always tell the difference from the start Intimate art, I bare every part of my heart Don’t know how to stand still, life imitate shark I dwell in the dark, searching like Lewis and Clark And, then add a new chapter to my life story arc Subliminal Hook: Testify… False Conclusion, maybe it’s all an illusion A full-bred square peg, on the ball of confusion, The truth’s a lie, at least five tenths the time I’m being generous in interest of trying to enshrine Some magic moments since tainted, a shame ain’t, I can’t explain it It’s like I speak foreign language, and can’t change it Tried in vain, the vein? ain’t really trying to drain it That thought’s heinous, but we can only take so much anguish At times, even to myself I felt a stranger I dodged danger, including my own hands, from anger A cliffhanger, but followed the steps of Miss Gaynor Then lived long enough to learn pain’s the remainder It never fades, sometimes it wanes in old age I write my best days, a message like O’Jays I feign I’m OK, I play the whole game No blame, no sense putting flame to propane Leading to no gain, losing the one thing Said to set the scales, finally balance the beam I stare at a screen, trying to figure out what it means I mean ANYTHING, reality is split at the seams And everyday we gotta navigate scams and schemes I try to believe, I’ll receive some sort of reprieve And if my vision stays clear, then I’m bound to achieve
4.
Subliminal Hook 1: I summon all mystical powers...s (3Xs) This is interactive, I react to science and magic A force of habit, to let my imagination hold me captive My mind adaptive to any witchcraft that you practice One of many facets pushing me towards ataraxis My pain ain’t passive, and healing comes slow as molasses Kill all masters, replace em with the will of the masses And take our chances, that that’s a form of mental advancement An enhancement, improvement on our current circumstances I search for answers, and teach an elephant what ant is A steady hand, surgically removing culture cancers In future stanzas, I’m still trying to sort through my findings I stay reminding…myself they never DIE from my kindness The bottom line is, most people are as fickle as time is That wisdom’s timeless, familiar like the sweet smell of pine is And I’m a pilot, taking flight to Avra island That’s not aligning? suggest you read the book in the binding Love is blinding, some people are immune to confinement And like my writing, love is cryptic like The Shining I gave up trying, let the doves go, sent them flying If they return and I’m not there, how could I possibly fi nd em? I toppled giants, and almost sold my soul for the science I slept with lions in dreams, and woke up to their defiance But I survived it, waking in my bed feeling frightened I feel enlightened…yet and still despite all the brightness My stress is heightened, life seems like a futile assignment I study symbols in numbers, incantations of wonder Astral travel in slumber, carve a scepter from lumber I cue the drummer, and tell em put their weight on the hits I’m trying to warn the ancestors that the problems persist I’m in the midst of a failure, on the brink of success More or less, I guess that’s just the curse of the blessed Hook: Pondering my life as I look into my orb… Subliminal Hook 2: Some people won’t give science a chance…
5.
My personality? Man, I got a wide array Do you really wanna see It on full display? My dues are paid, but struggle still rules the day It’s like a pool game, still trying to work my aim The worth of pain ain’t measured by the hurt it brings And certain things ain’t really worth the gain My purpose? CHANGE the ways that don’t serve me well Fight tooth and nail, if not, I DESERVE to fail That’s harsh words, but I don’t sugarcoat these tales I keep them pure in their form like the mourning wails Of a child first learning that the heart is frail Ain’t hard to tell, love can be hard to sell Much less give, and it feels so odd to fail Can probably tell, I’m a newly evolving shell Trying to focus my direction like a monorail… If this is it, let me get one final kiss Upon my lips, that’s not my fondest wish It’s just a thought in the moment, that’s what honest is A modernist, still known to honor his History, goes deep like archaeologist Acknowledgments are not why I conjure this I can’t resist, I can’t let monsters win They’re monstrous, yeah, that’s probably obvious Survival rate, depending on the odds we get And odd is THIS, no signs of being mod-er-rate And, I’ll admit, that’s old news like Vinyl Skips So don’t play, here you won’t find no kids A finalist, finally, but remind me this Is the prize worth more than what the problems is? It hardly is, I need to see a pharmacist And, we can skip the prescription, I know just the fix The question is, what’s the cure for nothingness? The lust of men, corrupts and erupts within Worsening conditions it’s a must we win It’s us or them, I’m trying to adjust to this… Justices who don’t seem to know what justice is So many layers, can god even answer our prayers? Or is he just too busy with his own affairs? The bonus years, is what it appears this is Appearances are not quite what mirrors is In seriousness, I’m just trying to bury the myth We’re guaranteed something better if we follow the scripts Tomorrows a gift, or one step towards the abyss Between me and reality, I’m sensing a rift The tension is thick, the sands of time pass quick I full stuck…but false hope is the only rope I get Subliminal Hook: You’ll sink very deeply…
6.
It’s been some years since I first heard its song That’s assuming it’s the same bird all along Right or wrong, think we formed a bond that’s strong Listen to the melodies as I lay and yawn Sometimes it’s late nights, or an early rise I wish life was as beautiful as its song implies I close my eyes, let the music be my guide It sings with pride, I wish the sound was amplified A medicinal experience, felt worldwide For those concerned, YES, I’ve been certified To declare its existence as sanctified I thank the skies, for allowing it a space to fly So it returns, and lets me push my woes aside A brief relief, a moment to be free from grief A form of peace, multi-purpose like a coral reef Its form of speech, not the sort of thing you can teach That’s a gift from the universe, sung from the trees A true composer, I’d love to hear all its work No comparison, but similar to Roland Kirk Every note a surprise, but in perfect tune So healing to the soul, trying to soothe the wounds We can’t assume, how long it will share its gift The search for the bliss, that bird is a certain fit Every song helps define what my purpose is Zoos or circuses? naw, let that bird for free And when it does, it will live in my memory The simple things, sometimes are just the thing we need I must concede, never seen its beak or wings Stare out the window, trying to see the branch where it’s perched But here’s the thing, it feels like an endless search It seems to blend with the environment, I take that mean That songbird prefers to be the sound unseen HOOK: A sight unseen, a sound that’s heard I just hope that bird gets the last word…rarghhhh..
7.
This a rabbit hole, how far are you willing to go? From the heights of the mind? To the depths of the soul? Don’t need a poll, the weight puts a toll on your purpose The whole earth is starting to feel a lot like a circus Not trying to discourage, I’d rather nourish, regret is worthless I’m trying flourish, instead of just scratching the surface My moral compass encompasses attraction to Adverse actions which lurk among us Seek to overcome us, and spread like a fungus Absolutely repugnant…like most factions of government ACTING like the ark the covenant, that’s some otherness Humbleness can be its own reward, but you run the risk Of being overlooked, sometimes I’d rather be numb from bliss It’s fun to wish upon star…that’s not a plan I weave the strands of DNA, creating a new man Here stands a new being, origins from Nubian regions Trained in interstellar MCing, this is a briefing My origin story is too hard to believe, so I keep it hidden At least for now, until I finally make the decision Confirm suspicions I was forged in a different dimension A cataclysm, a million years of fusion and fission A slow transition till I finally come to fruition Born with vision to strategize against your attrition Present position feels a lot like a prison Though I know it isn’t, but think it was inspired thereof Push comes to shove, perception is a powerful drug Second to love, but I’m willing…to DIE for the queen bee We seem free until we see just what their scheme be Routinely trying to get us more like machinery I don’t follow programming, and MCing means to me… Meditational Chaos

about

This EP is dedicated to a bird I first heard many years ago in my parents neighborhood, and I've continued to hear it as I've visited ever since. That said, I'm not sure if it's the "same bird", but part of this EP is about finding the simple things to appreciate, rather than overthinking (a prime trait of mine), perhaps especially important when navigating stressful times.

More to that point, this EP was written as I was processing a lot of challenging things in life personally (still am...), while simultaneously, it also seems like "reality is split at the seams", as I say on "False or True". These songs all reflect different ways that I, and I assume you, deal with those moments of anxiety, stress, and/or frustration. Throughout the EP there is venting, dry/dark humor, sarcasm, ego tripping (to overcompensate or hide insecurity/pain), feelings of numbness, nonchalantness, and so on. It's me trying to capture my emotions in the music, the good ones, and the things I'm still working on. This is my most eccentric side perhaps, but also an honest look at how I think and feel, particularly in this moment in time.

As for the bird, the first time I recall hearing it, I was having a particularly bad day, and it caught my attention. It had a unique voice and rhythm. I was fascinated by it. Every time I would visit my parents I would listen for it, and try to record it, but never could catch it clearly. I never was able to see it either, as the tree it would sit in made it difficult to see anything. I fairly quickly decided that I didn't need to know what it looked like, what type of bird it was, or even if it was always the same species of bird. I could just appreciate its songs and words...
