about

"This Is Where You Got It From" is the third mix in the Applied Theories (aka Theories Of Origin) series by DJ Nikoless. Each mixtape in the series connects like a musical puzzle piece, and each mixtape focuses on a specific topic that I wanted to shine a spotlight on in Hip Hop DJ Culture.

"This Is Where You Got It From" is simply about appreciating, acknowledging, and supporting the Hip Hop DJ, as well as reminding MCs that there used to be a standard, and impressive history of, MCs writing songs about their DJ's skills.

I'm proud of this mixtape 100%! It contains some of my most bold and favorite song collages and blend remixes that I've ever done and/or co-produced. It features the scratch and beat juggling talents of Plain Ole Bill and Shazam Bangles (formerly DJ Tanner). I love that the songs list the DJs as the artists and the MCs as the features. I love the highly detailed shout outs. I love the artwork, done by Mike 2600, and photos by Skye Of Rossi, both representing Burlesque of North America America. At this time, I also decided I wanted my mixtapes to be accessible for classroom teaching and family events, so I asked Mike 2600 to create the "Family Approved Listening" logo, which I had never seen that idea used anywhere before this.

As part of the download, I have included scans of all 5-panels of art, as well as scans of the original discs, which includes the full tracklisting.
